What challenges do you for see in making your game?

I think for our particular game, the most challenging thing would be creating our map. We have to make each wall and put the blocks of cheese in the map. We're starting on this now :)

Globaloria Exam

  1. Describe your team's topic. What is the most important concept you want your players to learn?
Our team's game topic is about disease. We want players to learn about cat and mice diseases that most people don't know about.

2. Tell us more about your team process. Please each talk about your specific roles, and how you work together.

My role in creating the game is finding Flash codes and putting them in Flash. My partner's role is creating the illustrations of the game. While he creates the game pieces, I put them together in Flash.

3. What kind of research went into the way you will express the game topic?

We had to research different diseases that a cat or mouse could have but could also affect humans with a disease.

4. Explain the game play. What actions do the player take in the game? Has this changed since you first started planning your game? Why?

Our game is like Pac Man except you play the role of a mouse. You move around and try to get all of the blocks of cheese. Cats will try to get the mouse after a few seconds of game play. Once you get a special circular block of cheese, a question will pop up and you will need to answer it. If you get it right, then you have an opportunity to kill one of the cats. However, if you get it wrong, you continue the game without anything happening. This has been the basic concept of the game ever since we started planning it. We added some things into the game but otherwise, nothing has changed with how the game works.

5. What Flash resources have been most helpful in your learning so far, and why? How did you locate these resources?

I think that the wiki has been the most helpful so far. It has tips and videos on how to do certain actions in Flash. These resources were already available to us when we started Globaloria.

6. What curriculum topic has been most difficult for you so far? How did you overcome this difficulty?
I think that button making was the absolute most difficult thing to do. It took me forever to figure out how to link the buttons to another frame. I overcame this by looking around in Flash and noticing that I could track the button as a menu item and it seemed to do the trick.

How has this assignment helped you think more clearly about your game idea? Has it caused you to modify your ideas or approach? Why or why not?

Paper prototyping has helped us with our game because it actually lets us see what the game will look like before we make it in Flash. We actually haven't really modified anything when it came to paper prototyping because we already had our game in order and didn't actually plan to change anything.

Internet Privacy

People need to protect themselves more on the internet. Personal information shouldn't be given out, even if you know the person. Anyone on the internet can intercept information sent out to others. Don't give out phone numbers, personal emails, addresses, credit card numbers, or anything of the sort that can personally identifiy you.

Mini Game

I would say that the worst part about the mini game was putting the script in the actions layer and it not working. The best part was changing the colors of the animals and getting a feel for when I actually make my game.

Game

Hello. I'm a junior at James Monroe High School. I'm making a game with my partner called Pack Rat. The links help us figure out what the diets of mice are so we can incorperate that into our game. Look at it like Pac Man but with a cat and mouse.

Week 4; Day 2

We finally got our broadband up and running so it makes getting on the internet a lot faster. We're adding gadgets to our blog and doing other stuff with our blogs. We also installed Flash yesterday so our class is starting to pick up the pace.

Grant's Globaloria Experience: Week 2; Day 4

http://www.dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/

Week 2; Day 4

Well were ending week 2 with avatar uploading. It took us a while to figure out how to do it but we managed to come along. We were also told that we won't be getting Flash for 3 more weeks so we have a long time before any actual game designing will take place. We'll see what happens tomorrow. While we wait, I recommend that you play Dust. Its an educational game that uses elements in dot form and allows you to experiment with them. There is a link at the top of the blog for the game. Have fun! Having trouble seeing the link? Click under this post "Links to this Post" and click "Dust"

Week 2; Day 3

The middle of the second week is kinda going slow. Not everyone has signed up on the blog and gotten their wiki setup. I hope this gets much better by the end of the week. We're working on changing our background colors and font colors. I hate html code with a passion but its crazy.

Week 1

The first week was kind of slow here in Globaloria class. We were waiting on new computers and some slow students but everything is turning out good. We set up our Wiki accounts which took a while because we have quite a bit of people in the class. My overall take on Globaloria is pretty good. Hopefully things will get better
